Vertical Farming

Strengths of Vertical Farming

1. Takes up less space than traditional farming

The vertical alignment in vertical farms allow for more crops to be produced in a single area compared to traditional farms.
This allows for more efficient usage of land, freeing up space that would have been used up by traditional farms for more uses.

2. Allows fresh produce to be closer to urban communities

Vertical farms are been built in controlled environments like buildings, which allow them to be contained within an urban community.
Since the farm is located in the community, there is greatly reduced travelling costs to bring the produce to consumers.

3. Reduces waste generated onsite

Since vertical farms operate in a fairly closed environment, there is a reduced need to use pesticides for the crops. The fertilizer used in the crops can also be collected and disposed of rather than allowed to run off into the ground.

4. Allows a cyclical production of produce

The controlled environment is not affected by outside factors such as the changing of weather and climate. As a result, the farm can operate continuously, serving produce to local communities regularly.
